The Department for Culture Media & Sport (DCMS) has this morning published a summary of responses in respect of the Consultation on a proposal to use a Legislative Reform Order to make changes to entertainment licensing.

In our article ‘DCMS Consultation - further deregulation of entertainment licensing' from October 2013, we reported that the DCMS launched a consultation on the implementation of reforms to deregulate further types of regulated entertainment via a Legislative Reform Order (LRO).

It covered plans to:

  • amend the licensing requirements in respect of live music and recorded music;
  • bring in cross-activity licensing exemptions for local authorities, schools, hospitals, nurseries and circuses; and
  • remove the licensing requirement for Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.

Having held a detailed consultation and taken into account all views, the Government has decided to implement further reforms through a Legislative Reform Order.

The Parliamentary process for LROs is set out in Annex C of the consultation document: ‘Consultation on a proposal to use a Legislative Reform Order to make changes to entertainment licensing', which explains how further views can be put to the Parliamentary Scrutiny Committees now that the LRO has been laid.

The Summary of Responses can be found here
